Authorities: Ingleside man had almost $60,000 in counterfeit clothing, accessories

An investigation by federal and local authorities has resulted in the arrest of an Ingleside man for acquiring and selling counterfeit apparel and accessories, police said.

Felipe Aparicio-Nolasco, 43, of the 35400 block of North Wilson Road, was charged Monday with one count of possession/sale of counterfeit goods after accepting delivery of approximately 170 jerseys and other items of clothing, according to Lake County sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli.

Following the delivery of the counterfeit items Monday, Lake County sheriff's detectives and Department of Homeland Security agents located approximately 1,000 counterfeit items valued at nearly $60,000 inside Aparicio-Nolasco's house, according to Covelli. He said the investigation began in February.

"Homeland Security began the investigation and determined the likely source of these fraudulent items was Lake County," Covelli said. The counterfeit items consisted of name-brand clothing and accessories, such as handbags and purses, he added.

Covelli declined to discuss the scope of the sales but said Aparicio-Nolasco had been doing it for more than a year and admitted to selling the counterfeit items to local soccer teams. China was the primary source of the items, Covelli said.

Aparicio-Nolasco was taken into custody Monday evening at his house without any issues, Covelli said. No other arrests were made and none are anticipated, although additional charges against Aparicio-Nolasco are possible.

"The investigation is ongoing to determine if the individual was using the Internet to sell the counterfeit items," Covelli said.

Aparicio-Nolasco was held on $5,000 bail with a court date of May 19 in Lake County circuit court.
