Schaumburg High School Students to Give Annual Youth-In-Government Presentations April 14

The Village of Schaumburg will hold its annual Youth-In-Government event on Thursday, April 14 at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center where students from Schaumburg High School will give presentations to the Village Board on proposals considered for adoption in the village.

A schedule of the day's events is as follows:

9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Welcome by Village President Al Larson and Village Board; program overview.

9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

SHS students give presentations and Village Board selects team proposal for implementation.

11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Lunch (Prairie Center for the Arts)

11:45 a.m.

Students depart.

The students will be giving presentations for approval on an expenditure in an amount not to exceed $5,000. Student teams are responsible for presenting the item, justifying the request and encouraging the Village Board to approve it. The proposal selected by the Village Board will be funded by the Village of Schaumburg. This activity allows the students to understand the process for approving village expenditures to fund a program or service that they feel is worthwhile and will benefit the community.

Students will also be encouraged to utilize social media to share and communicate their experiences throughout the day.

The Youth-In-Government program kicked off March 3 where students were paired with elected officials, department directors and other key staff members to learn more about the activities, services and programs provided by the Village of Schaumburg.
