Suspect in Beach Park shootings arrested in Florida
A Waukegan man is in custody in Florida, pending extradition to Illinois, in connection with the March 23 shooting of two men in Beach Park.
After the shooting, Lake County sheriff's Gang Task Force investigators identified David C. Rivera, 28, of the 2000 block of North Jackson Street in Waukegan, as the shooter, according to sheriff's spokesman Christopher Covelli.
An arrest warrant was secured the next day on two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and three counts of aggravated unlawful discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $150,000.
Covelli said the Lake County, Florida and federal authorities developed information that Rivera was likely in Middleburg, Florida. He was taken into custody there Wednesday.
Rivera will appear in Clay County court for extradition hearings, Covelli said.
Sheriff's police at 6:52 p.m. March 23 responded to the McDonald's restaurant at 39082 N. Sheridan Road on a report of two individuals who had been shot.
Police said the driver and passenger were shot inside their vehicle on Yorkhouse Road, just west of North Sheridan Road. They drove to McDonald's, where they went inside and asked for employees to call 911. Both were taken to local hospitals and later released.
