Des Plaines Park District invites residents to take part in recycling initiative

The Des Plaines Park District is teaming up with Midwest Paper Retriever to create a new districtwide recycling initiative. Twice each year, park district staff do a "deep cleaning" of their offices, and hundreds of pounds of seasonal catalogs, reference materials, and paperwork are recycled. According to assistant superintendent of Parks & Planning, Corrie Guynn, "This is a great way to raise awareness for recycling, not only at the district, but also in the community. It helps emphasize our ongoing Green Initiative, and gives the community another outlet to properly dispose of their paper goods."

In conjunction with the year-round initiative, the park district will run paper drives, in the spring and fall, to encourage citizens to recycle. There is a new green and yellow box in the parking lot of the Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St., that is always available for residents to use. Acceptable materials include office paper and file folders, magazines and catalogs, flattened cardboard boxes, junk mail, and newspapers.
