David Danzmayr to conduct the Elgin Symphony in an all-Dvorák program April 1-3
David Danzmayr will conduct the Elgin Symphony Orchestra in an all-Dvorák program featuring Chicago violinist Rachel Barton Pine on April 1-3.
Danzmayr is music director of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra in Chicago, and of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. He is the only European conductor to reach the final of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Sir Georg Solti competition.
Danzmayr won second prize at the 2013 International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, in addition to being a prize winner at the International Malko Conducting Competition. He was strongly influenced by Pierre Boulez and Claudio Abbado during his time as conducting scholar at the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, and by Leif Segerstam while studying conducting at the world-renowned Sibelius Academy. He gained significant experience as assistant to Neeme Järvi, Stephane Deneve, Carlos Kalmar, Sir Andrew Davies and Pierre Boulez.
The ESO performances will include Dvorák's Othello Overture, Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 9, "From a New World."
The concerts will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.

Saturday night concertgoers are invited after the performance to attend "Mingle with the Musicians" at the Elgin Public House.
In addition to his extensive classical repertoire, Danzmayr also devotes himself to the performance of 21st century music. He is music director of the Ensemble Acrobat and a regular guest conductor with the Austrian Contemporary Music Ensemble. With both ensembles he has repeatedly been recorded by the Austrian National Radio for broadcasting and CD.
Danzmayr received his musical training at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg where, after initially studying piano, he went on to study conducting with Dennis Russell Davies and completed his studies with the highest honors.
Danzmayr has served as assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, which he has conducted in more than 70 concerts so far, performing in all the major Scottish concert halls and in the prestigious St. Magnus Festival. He is also a sought after guest conductor for other internationally renowned orchestras, having worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra, Haydn Orchestra Bozen, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic, Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, to name a few.
