Chicago Bears re-sign kicker returner Deonte Thompson

The Bears re-signed wide receiver Deonte Thompson, their top kickoff returner from last season.

The four-year veteran, who also caught 2 passes for 81 yards last season, agreed to a one-year deal. The 6-foot, 203-pound Thompson wasn't signed by the Bears until Week 3 last season and spent the next six weeks on the practice squad.

But he won the kickoff-return job from Marc Mariani in Week 10 and averaged 29.2 yards on 14 attempts. His average would have ranked second in the NFL last season if he had enough attempts to qualify.
