Northbrook speedskaters win big at the 2016 National Age Group Championships

The Northbrook Speedskating Club participated in the U.S. Short Track Age Group National competition held March 18 through March 20, in Verona, Wisconsin.

After an exciting weekend of racing, the club's Carl Tatelli (11) of Highland Park was crowned the silver medalist of the Pony Men's division. Carl is also the reigning U.S. National Age Group Long Track Speedskating Pony Division Champion; securing that title over Valentine's weekend earlier this year. Evanston's Mackenzie Igel (11) and Round Lake's Xavier Lawrence (9) both earned 8th place in the Pony Ladies' and Pony Men's divisions respectively.

Other members of the Northbrook Speedskating Club who competed in the National Championship included: Wilmette's Oliver Rogalski (12), Vernon Hills' Marcello Gaus Ehning (11), Winnetka's Wilson Wright (11), and Glenview's Jon Olsen (11).

The Northbrook Speedskating Club is coached by Chris Stankiewicz and practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Northbrook Sports Arena, 1730 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook. Information about the club can be found on their website:
