Wendyl Fisher Celebrates his 100th birthday!

Wendyl Fisher of Mount Prospect celebrated his 100th birthday on March 16, 2016.

Wendyl was born in Wabash County to parents, John Rudolph Fisher and Nellie Virginia Brines. He was welcomed into the world by his two siblings, Catherine Virginia and Morris Rudolph.

The family owned a farm near Belmont, IL. Wendyl attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from a three year high school, Belmont High in 1934.

Wendyl held various jobs throughout his adult life from farmer to gasoline truck driver; from appliance repairman to owning his own business, Fisher's Repairs. He retired in 1978.

He met the love of his life, Frances Fischer, on a double date with his cousin, Tommy Wright. They were married in a small church in Mount Carmel on June 4, 1938 and honeymooned in the mountains near Louisville, KY.

Together they raised three children, Gale Joan (1940), Charles Edward (1943-2009) and John Frederick (1948).

With the children grown, Wendyl and Frances moved to Peoria, AZ. Frances passed away in 2006, after 67 years of marriage. Wendyl moved back to Mount Prospect in 2011 to be closer to his eight grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

When asked what is his secret to long life? His ready response is his faith and his family. He reads his Bible every day; enjoying the Psalms and the Gospels - especially the Gospel of John.

He doesn't eat any fat, sugar or salt; enjoys an occasional shot of bourbon with branch water; loves fishing, gardening and crossword puzzles. Although he will occasionally "root" for the White Sox he is a die-hard Cubs fan.

Wendyl began his birthday celebration by attending worship with his son and daughter in law, John and Jeanne Fisher at the Lutheran Church of Martha and Mary, 606 West Golf Road, Mt. Prospect.

The sanctuary was filled with family; daughter Gale, grandchildren and great grandchildren!

Pastor Ken Johnson's heartfelt comments about Wendell's faith-filled life were met with hearty applause. The service concluded with a favorite hymn of Wendyl's "The Old Rugged Cross". There were a few teary eyes as all joined together in song.

The celebration continued with a catered brunch sponsored by the church's Faith in Action Committee and a local Thrivent "Live Generously" Financial Action Team.

In lieu of presents, guests were encouraged to follow Wendyl's life long example to put their "Faith in Action" and "Live Generously". All contributions raised at the brunch will be donated to local organizations such as the Elk Grove Food Pantry.

Wendyl continues to live his life in faith and trust in God. He is a living testimony to the difference LOVE can make in our world.

Happy 100th birthday Wendyl; may God continue to bless you as you have blessed us!
