Bring old electronics to Sustainable Saturday
Area residents have an opportunity to get rid of old electronic equipment and other waste items while helping the environment at the annual Sustainable Saturday event in Lisle.
The village of Lisle, DuPage County, School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education, and Benedictine University encourage area residents to bring their electronics and other waste items to the event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 19, in the parking lot adjacent to the Dan and Ada Rice Center on the Benedictine campus, 5700 College Road, Lisle.
Cars must enter the campus at the traffic light off College Road, south of Maple Avenue.
Items accepted include computers, monitors (no picture tube monitors), flat-screen televisions (no picture tube, projection screen or console TVs), printers and copy/fax machines, cellphones and telephones, VCRs and DVD players, small electronics, records, DVDs, stereos and video games, inkjet cartridges, and rechargeable and household batteries.
Also acceptable are car, boat and sump pump batteries; scrap metal, including washers, dryers, stoves, swing sets, pots, pans, lawn furniture, garden tools and tomato cages; fluorescent light bulbs, both compact fluorescent lights and tubes; used cooking oil in closed containers; bicycles, bike parts and helmets; eyeglasses and hearing aids; books, worn American flags, musical instruments and sheet music.
Other items accepted include old keys, yarn, buttons and rulers, good medical equipment (crutches, walkers, canes), documents (no rubber bands or plastic, limit two file-size paper boxes or three paper shopping bags per vehicle), Goodwill items (clothes, shoes, sporting goods, furniture), and reusable building hardware/supplies in good condition (cabinets, tools, doors, plumbing, and lighting fixtures; no masonry).
No hazardous waste will be accepted.
