Jeffery signs his franchise tag contract with Chicago Bears
Pro Bowl wide receiver Alshon Jeffery officially signed his franchise tag tender, which guarantees him a $14.599 million salary for 2016.
While it's a formality, Jeffery's acceptance means he will not hold out in protest of being tagged once training camp begins. In the past, other players have held out before signing
The Bears and Jeffery have until July 15 to negotiate a longer-term deal. By tagging Jeffery as a "nonexclusive" Unrestricted Free Agent, the Bears have the option of matching any competing offer from another team or accepting two first-round draft choices as compensation.
Despite battling four soft-tissue injuries this past season and missing seven games, Jeffery still led the Bears with 54 receptions and 807 yards.
