Why has scientific article caused uproar?

A scientific paper which says the human hand was designed by a "creator" has sparked controversy. What I find intriguing is a "scientific community" uproar over any reference to God as our Creator. Can science prove there is no Creator, no God? That seems to be what this uproar falls back on. Science has not proven there is no God. It" s so frustrating for the nonbelievers that they try to silence any reference, and then ridicule. True science would be open to at least the "theory" of intelligent design. The uproar should be over closed minds.
