Huntley's Andrews, Prospect's Villasin advance in 3-point contest
Huntley senior Ali Andrews would likely be much happier to be playing in the state girls basketball tournament this weekend, but even though her team fell one win short of making the Class 4A Final Four, Andrews will be on the Redbird Arena floor in her Red Raider uniform on the final day of the season.
By making 11 of her 15 attempts Thursday, Andrews qualified for the state finals in the Class 4A 3-point Showdown. She and Sarah Lyons of Ottawa each made 11. They will be joined in the finals by Prospect senior Angelina Villasin, who made 9 and then drained 7 of 10 in a tiebreaker shootout, and Lincoln-Way North senior Stephanie Stec, who also made 9 and then hit 6 of 10 in the tiebreaker.
Other Daily Herald area players competing in the contest in Class 4A included Madison Mallory of Montini (8), Baley McClure of South Elgin (5), Nicole Yoshino of Wheeling (5), Yaneli Dorado of Leyden (4), Kayla Hare of Bartlett (8), Hannah Ilyavi of Downers Grove North (6), Amy Bukovsky of Montini (6), Mia Lakstigala of Naperville Central (6), Megan Talbot of Barrington (4), Miya Johnson of Round Lake (7), Kelsey Nallon of Rolling Meadows (7) and Jennifer Deegan of Glenbard North (7).
In Class 3A, the top four were Jordan Hackmann of Mahomet-Seymour, Hailie Williams of Lincoln, Katelyn Turbyfill of Bethalo Civic Memorial and Taylor Mosley of Benton, all of whom made 10.
Daily Herald area competitors in 3A included Sam Pryor of Burlington Central (9), Myia Clark of St. Viator (4), Alexa Amato of Carmel (6), Madyson Carli of Glenbard South (4), Jamie Netzley of Wheaton Academy (5), Allie Peters of Hampshire (5), Rachel Dumoulin of Hampshire (8) and Ashley Reiser of Antioch (7).
The Class 4A finals will be between Friday night's semifinal games, with the Queen of the Hill finals, which pits the champions of each of the four classes, at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
