Many unknowns in township road issue
Now that things have settled down somewhat at the College of DuPage, it is time to look more closely at the proposal for the City of Naperville to take over maintenance of those Naperville Township roads that are outside the incorporated Naperville City limits.
The city staff has presented what appear to be considerable cost savings if the city takes over the Naperville Township roads that are outside the incorporated Naperville city limits. However, their proposal admits that current levels of service received by the unincorporated township residents would be greatly reduced in several areas.
No one has said how much money could be saved if the Naperville Township road department reduced its services to the levels proposed by the city. If that information was available, residents and the officials involved might be able to at least compare apples to apples while reaching a decision on taking over the roads.
Also, what is proposed to be done in Lisle Township where the same situation of maintenance of roads outside the city limits exists? Why was Naperville Township chosen to be the guinea pig?
Two too many unanswered questions to make a rational decision. Hopefully, they will be answered before the subject comes up at a future City Council meeting.
