Libertyville baseball coach Schurr resigns
Libertyville athletic director Briant Kelly has confirmed that veteran baseball coach Jim Schurr has resigned.
Longtime assistant Sean Ferrell has been named interim head coach.
Schurr, whose 2013 Wildcats finished second in the Class 4A state tournament, was set to begin his 14th season as head coach.
Schurr's coaching career began at Elk Grove, where was the head baseball coach and an assistant in football and basketball. Schurr went on to Niles North for the next five years of his teaching/coaching career serving as the varsity assistant in baseball and the head football coach for two years. He was an assistant baseball coach at Libertyville under Jim Panther and then became head coach after Panther retired in 2002.
Schurr was a junior college All-American shortstop, earning him a Division I scholarship to Western Kentucky.
Under Schurr, Libertyville went 297-159, winning at least 20 games in all but one of his 13 seasons. The Wildcats also captured four regional championships.
Libertyville is scheduled to open its season March 14 at home against Deerfield.
