Join Schaumburg Youth Orchestra and Choir for Sing Your Heart Out II Sing Along Fun
Audiences can "get into the act" when they are invited to join the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra and Schaumburg Youth Choir in song at "Sing Your Heart Out II" at the Prairie Center for the Arts at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday, March 5.
The concert is a follow-up to the orchestra's successful sing-along show presented in 2013. Since then, the 18-member Schaumburg Youth Choir formed, providing an ideal complement to the program. "Both youth programs mainly focus on classical and serious works, so it's fun to unwind a bit with 'Singin' in the Rain' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'," says Rob Pileckis, Production Supervisor at the Prairie Center and the youth programs' manager.
The choir, directed by Michael VanCamp, will join the orchestra in leading the audience as song lyrics are projected onto a screen. Medleys from "My Fair Lady," and "Beauty and the Beast" will be performed, along with TV show theme songs, patriotic favorites, Hollywood musical numbers, and other works by Irving Berlin, the Beatles, and Queen.
The advanced 70-member student symphony, directed by Joseph Malmquist, is one of four ensembles that make up the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra program. Its musicians come from 18 communities from throughout the north and northwest suburbs, including Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Mt. Prospect, Barrington, Palatine, and Arlington Heights. The orchestra presents concerts locally at the Prairie Center and has toured overseas to perform in Germany, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, England, France, and Japan.
Tickets for "Sing Your Heart Out," $20 ($12 for students and seniors) can be ordered online at prairiecenter.org or by calling (847) 895-3600. The Prairie Center for the Arts is located at 201 Schaumburg Ct, Schaumburg.
The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra is a program of the Village of Schaumburg and is sponsored by the Motorola Solutions Foundation and the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.
