Music, food, giveaways all part of chamber's WinterFest

The Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce will present "WinterFest: A Home and Business Expo" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Jacobs High School, 2601 Bunker Hill in Algonquin.

This event brings residents, community organizations and businesses together in family friendly environment featuring music, food, demonstrations and giveaways.

"The chamber revamped the typical expo format to make it an exciting, value-added late winter diversion," says chamber executive director Dave Rudin. "Not only is WinterFest an opportunity to connect with the businesses and organizations that make our community great, but it's a terrific venue for entertainment and food."

The WinterFest experience begins at the door, where attendees will have the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items to the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry.

A few items will make a huge difference, as donations generally decrease during this time of year. It's just one way the chamber has revamped the expo to give it more of a community feel.

A variety of entertainment is scheduled throughout the day, including the Jacobs Jazz Band, live cooking demonstrations with chefs from local restaurants, a dog agility demonstration, and the Aunt Janet Band. Food will be available for purchase.

Jarid Brockman of Edward Jones Investments in Algonquin has purchased a booth for several years - and he's really looking forward to participating in Winterfest.

"It's a terrific opportunity to visit with members of the community, showcase my business, and see who else I can help," Brockman says, noting that he also appreciates the camaraderie. "I really enjoy spending the day with the friends I've met as a result of my participation in the chamber."

Residents can warm up to this high-energy community event Feb. 27 when they make WinterFest a highlight of their weekend. In addition to having a great time - and maybe winning a prize valued at $500. Attendees may find the perfect new service, product, trend or idea to make life easier.

A limited number of booths are still available. Contact the chamber at info@alchamber.com or call (847) 658-5300 for more information.
