Trump's nomination will cost GOP election

As a Republican I can't recall a time when the party presented such a great choice of attractive, qualified candidates. All have good communication skills and resumes of impressive accomplishment. Excepting Donald Trump, they all seem to possess the right temperament to lead our country.

For those who have followed the debates you couldn't help but notice that Trump rejects any form of political correctness, as do I, but he also seems to reject well established civil behavior. By using outrageously rude, grade school level insults and bullying tactics he tries to diminish any accomplishments and sacrifices of anyone whom he perceives to be a threat to his lead in the polls.

He presents himself as an arrogant narcissist with the social graces of a spoiled, petulant child. He obviously has no filter to control his rhetoric, and his past shows he has no political compass. History teaches us that when people of Trump's temperament are put in charge, well reasoned governance is in serious jeopardy.

Having said all that, I have a difficult time understanding why he is leading in the polls. Perhaps his supporters think his belligerence is entertaining, or perhaps they find him an appealing antidote to the political correctness of the wimpy Obama, but those are the wrong reasons to make him the party's nominee. "Making America Great Again" is a terrific slogan, but it's only a slogan. Mr. Trump has shared little about how he will accomplish this other than to say, "I'll hire the smartest people."

The prospect of Trump becoming the nominee makes me angry because it will cost Republicans the election. I believe several of the other candidates could win the general election, but because of Trump we may miss a crucial opportunity at a very critical time.
