Bilingual College Fair to be held at Church of the Holy Spirit
Schaumburg, IL - The Church of the Holy Spirit 1451 Bode Road, Schaumburg will be hosting a Bilingual College Fair on Sunday, February 21. The event will start at around 1 p.m. following the regular Spanish Mass at noon and will be held on the lower level of the church.
The invitation is extended to all of the surrounding communities and is free to the public. People of all ages are encouraged to attend, whether a high school student exploring higher education opportunities, parents looking to prepare for their children's college education or individuals looking to return to college to start a new career.
Maria Ortiz, the mastermind behind the event, encourages families to attend because "it is never too early or too late to think about college." She started the event a couple years ago to get families at Church of the Holy Spirit enthusiastic about higher education.
Information will be provided in both English and Spanish about financial aid and applying to college. There will be representatives in attendance from various colleges, including Harper Community College, Roosevelt University, Elgin Community College, North Park College and Northern Illinois University, Saint Mary's College, among others.
"Preparing to attend college can be an involved process, takes planning and sometimes it is hard to know where to start. This event is for anyone who may have thought even once, I'd like to go to college one day," said event organizer Jillian Rose Bernas.
The Church of the Holy Spirit is known in the community for its Hispanic Ministry, which celebrated 25 years of service last fall to the Hispanic community in Schaumburg.
