SRACLC welcomes spring intern

Submitted by the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County

The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County recently welcomed Alexandrea Hines as its spring 2016 intern.

SRACLC offers recreation programs for people with disabilities of all ages. This internship concludes Alex's Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation studies from Western Illinois University.

Alex will be assisting with the agency's Active Adult program and leading various weekly programs and special events. She will also work closely with the SRACLC camp coordinators on her internship project to develop and implement a summer camp campaign designed to inform school-aged students and teachers about SRACLC's many camp opportunities.

During her 14-week internship with SRACLC, Alex will be exposed to many of the aspects of community therapeutic recreation. She will work with a wide range of people with intellectual and physical disabilities and participants of all ages.

Upon completion of the internship, Alex will graduate with her bachelor of science degree and be eligible to sit for the National Counsel for Therapeutic Recreation Certification exam.

SRACLC offers internships to college juniors and seniors studying therapeutic recreation at accredited colleges and universities. Students interested in this opportunity should visit www.sraclc.org or contact Kelly Smith at ksmith@sraclc.org.
