Prosecutors: Streamwood man struck 9-year-old
A Streamwood man with three pending felony cases is facing additional charges for hitting a 9-year-old boy, authorities said.
Christopher Mota, 20, is being held without bond because he was on bail from a pending case at the time of his latest arrest. Mota - who prosecutors say has threatened to harm himself and is currently hospitalized at St. Alexius Medical Center - is charged with aggravated battery to a child.
About 3 p.m. Feb. 1, Mota exited his home and began yelling at three boys, ages 9, 10 and 11, who were playing outside, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maureen McGee said at a hearing Tuesday.
She said Mota tried to strike the 11-year-old, but the boy eluded him. Mota hit the 9-year-old in the face, leading him to fall and suffer scrapes, McGee said.
Police found Mota inside a closet underneath a pile of clothes, McGee said. He was hospitalized and then released. Taken to the Streamwood Police Department upon his release, he tried to cut himself and was returned to the hospital, McGee said.
Mota has an aggravated domestic battery case pending at the Rolling Meadows courthouse, along with other cases involving charges of marijuna possession and an unlawful use of a weapon.
His next court date on the latest case is Feb. 17.
