Museum offers free admission for Abraham Lincoln's birthday
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is offering free admission to mark the 16th president's birthday.
In a news release, officials say anyone can visit the Springfield museum free of charge during a birthday celebration on Friday, Feb. 12. The museum also is inviting school groups to tour at no fee during the month of February.
Nadine Leary is the museum's acting executive director. She says it's important for everyone to learn "the amazing story of Abraham Lincoln and his accomplishments" and the museum is happy to make doing so a bit easier.
Friday's events will include a concert by the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band. Actors portraying Mary Lincoln and other historical figures also will be on hand.
