Wheaton class teaches how to make party drinks

Mixing a good drink is not only a neat party trick, it's an art unto itself, requiring precision, presentation and practice. Hosts can hone these skills and learn how to create four drinks this week in Wheaton Park District's Mixology class.

Running monthly from January through May, Mixology is taught by Nick Panno, a six-year veteran bartender of Arrowhead Restaurant and Bar. The first class in the series is from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Arrowhead Golf Club, 26W151 Butterfield Road, Wheaton.

"We're excited to get the classes back in action," Panno said. "We had a lot of fun with the guests, and they had fun learning tricks of the trade."

Each month showcases a different theme, starting with "Tequila: From Margaritas to the Worm" for January and continuing with "Martinis: Fun and Easy Party-Tini Ideas" on Thursday, Feb. 25, and "Mojitos: Great Ideas for Your Summer Party" on Thursday, March 24.

April and May's themes have not been announced yet, but one may include whiskey, according to Brian Whitkanack, director of restaurant and banquet operations.

"People have a ton of fun at these classes," Whitkanack said. "You learn a little bit, drink and eat a little bit, and meet some new people."

The cost of the class is $15 per person, and participants must be 21 or older. To register, visit arrowheadgolfclub.org.
