Mount Prospect man charged with selling cocaine near park

A Mount Prospect man who prosecutors say sold cocaine to undercover officers was ordered held on $60,000 bail Wednesday on charges he delivered a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a public park.

Kenzo Yoshimura, 20, was located and arrested Jan. 12, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

Shin said Mount Prospect police began investigating Yoshimura in August after receiving information about a person selling drugs. Undercover officers contacted Yoshimura, who agreed to sell them cocaine, Shin said.

On Aug. 22, officers purchased .9 grams of cocaine for $70 after meeting the defendant in the 3000 block of East Rand Road in Arlington Heights, which is within 1,000 feet of Prospect Meadows Park, Shin said.

If convicted, Yoshimura faces up to 15 years in prison. He's scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5.
