Don't forget your vehicle registration

Hoping to help residents avoid costly fines due to the Secretary of State's announcement that they will no longer mail out vehicle registration reminders because of the budget impasse, State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) is encouraging residents to sign up for electronic reminders and be conscious of the month their registration will expire.

"Renewing vehicle registration is an easy thing to forget, but it can get costly for families if they get pulled over," Sente said. "Please, save yourself the time and money now and sign up for e-reminders, or put out a simple reminder like a note on the fridge."

Helping residents avoid a potential lapse in vehicle registration, Sente is advising drivers that they can still receive email reminders by visiting ilsos.gov/greenmail and entering the registration ID and PIN found on their current registration card.

Residents who are unable to locate their current card or require additional assistance can call the Secretary of State's Public Inquiry Division at (800) 252-8980.

"This is another example of how the budget impasse is unfairly affecting those who have done nothing wrong," Sente said. "I pledge to keep working in a bipartisan spirit to ensure this crisis can come to expedient and balanced resolution."
