Bolingbrook man with 29 prior convictions faces DUI charges
A 32-year-old Bolingbrook man who authorities say has dozens of arrests and convictions on his record faces more charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning in Riverside.
Joseph J. Caliendo of the 300 block of Lyons Drive was charged with felony aggravated DUI, felony aggravated driving with a revoked license, misdemeanor DUI, possession of open alcohol, speeding and improper lane use, Riverside police said Monday.
Police said Caliendo was stopped for speeding while driving 57 mph in a 35 mph zone at 12:35 a.m. Sunday on First Avenue at 31st Street. They said Caliendo's car was crossing from curb to curb and forcing other drivers to take evasive action.
The officer who stopped Caliendo said the man had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and a white powder on his nose and upper lip.
Caliendo failed all of his field sobriety tests, police said, and officers recovered a 40-ounce bottle of beer from inside the vehicle.
Caliendo has three prior convictions for DUI, police said, in February 2001, October 2008 and March 2009. He was ticketed nine previous times for driving while his license was revoked.
Police said Caliendo is a self-admitted documented street gang member who was on parole and has 29 prior arrests and convictions on his record for burglary, traffic offenses, robbery, obstruction of justice, assault, theft, invasion of privacy and dangerous drugs.
