Send nominations for Illinois Senior Hall of Fame

State Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is asking area organizations and residents to nominate local seniors who have made a lasting impact on the community to be inducted into the Illinois Senior Hall of Fame.

"When I walk door-to-door, I meet a lot of remarkable seniors who have contributed so much to our community," Mussman said. "Seniors not only here locally but across the state have helped build our neighborhoods into what they are today, and for that we can never thank them enough."

The Illinois Department on Aging recognizes seniors for their contributions in three different categories: community service, education and labor force. Nomination forms for the 2016 Senior Illinois Hall of Fame are now available online at www.illinois.gov/aging/HallofFame/pages/default.aspx, or by calling the department's Senior Help line at (800) 252-8966.

After receiving the nominations, the department consults with the members of the Illinois Council on Aging to determine the winner of each of the three categories.

The Senior Illinois Hall of Fame was created by the Illinois legislature in 1994 as a way to honor older Illinois residents for their personal achievements. Since then, 98 people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Each nominated senior is chosen through a statewide nomination process.

"If you have an elderly family member, friend or neighbor that has committed their time and energy to making our communities a little bit better, then please take the time to submit their name," Mussman added.

"Recognizing the outstanding contributions senior citizens have made to our neighborhoods is the least we can do to thank them for their dedication to serving as model citizens."
