Refka shoots Palatine past Lyons
Chris Refka made three 3s and finished with a team-best 18 points to help Palatine's boys basketball team conclude its tournament run at York with a 56-52 victory over Lyons on Wednesday.
Palatine (10-4) won three of its four games at York.
The Pirates were outscored by Lyons 19-6 in the first quarter but Palatine outscored the Lions in each of the last three quarters.
Johnny O'Shea and Charlie Van Dyke both finished with 10 points, while Matt Ulrich had 7 points along with a team-high 6 assists and 5 steals and Matt Mayer contributed 6 points and a team-high 6 rebounds.
Connor Niego led the way for Lyons with 22 points.
Elk Grove 54, Highland Park 44: It was a perfect tournament finish for Elk Grove's Fulton Wingba.
He took seven shot attempts in the Grens' finale at York, all from 3-point range - and all went in the basket.
Wingba finished with 21 points and set a tournament record for 3-point accuracy.
Nico Collazo gave Elk Grove a big boost off the bench, canning four 3s and going 2-for-2 at the foul line for 14 points.
Brad Hubly and Joe Gatziolis both contributed 6 points and 4 assists for the Grens (8-7), who finished 2-2 in the tournament.
Zach Fleisher shot 8-for-9 from the field and finished with 18 points for Highland Park.
Schaumburg 46, Nazareth 45: Jason Schoo's layup in the final minute helped the Saxons (3-10) pick up a victory in their final game at York.
Schoo finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Schaumburg had good scoring balance, with Kameron Powell (13 points, 7 rebounds) leading the way and Kenny Travis and Hezekiel Trotter contributing 10 apiece off the bench.
The Saxons shot 14-for-20 from 2-point range but struggled at the foul line, making 6 of 15.
Nazareth, led by 18 points from Kaleb Thornton, was held to 16-of-50 shooting from the field.
Morton 48, Hersey 37: The Huskies came up short in their tournament finale on Wednesday at Pekin as Ryan Altenberger of Morton sank five 3s and finished with a game-high 32 points.
Joe Coffaro led the way for the Huskies (6-9) with 13 points.
Peoria 56, Hersey 46: In the Huskies' game at Pekin late Tuesday, Peoria shot 24-of-40 from the field.
Hersey got a game-high 19 points from junior Joe Coffaro, who had three 3s - the only 3s of the game for the Huskies.
Kevin Starr contributed 9 points and a team-best 3 rebounds for the Huskies, and Mark Milligan had 4 assists.
Christian Liberty shootout: The Chargers dropped both their games Wednesday, falling to eventual champion Freeport Aquin 76-53 and to North Shore Country Day 60-50.
Jesse Castro led Christian Liberty (3-11) in scoring in both contests, getting 12 against Aquin and 13 against North Shore. He also earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
