Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago co-founder opens prayer breakfast
Rajinder Singh Mago, co-founder of the Palatine-based Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, opened the annual Chicago Leadership Prayer Breakfast at the Chicago Hilton Dec. 4 with a Sikh prayer of Thanksgiving. Mago is a longtime volunteer coordinator of mainstream community outreach at Sikh Religious Society in Palatine and sits on the board of governors of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago. Mago is also a trustee emeritus of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions, which was founded in Chicago. The annual breakfast was sponsored by the Chicago Sunday Evening Club and was attended by Gov. Bruce Rauner, First Lady Diana Rauner, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, and more than 600 Chicago leaders of business, religious, interfaith, civic and nonprofit organizations. This was the first time in the 51-year history of the breakfast that a Sikh prayer was included.
• Rupa Brosseau, director of Development and Education for the Rolling Meadows-based International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and the IAOMS Foundation, was recognized as a "Forty Under 40" honoree by The Association Forum of Chicagoland and USAE weekly newspaper. The "Forty Under 40" Awards recognize 40 up-and-coming association or nonprofit professionals who are under the age of 40, demonstrate high potential for success in leadership roles, and exhibit a strong commitment to the association management profession. As the director of Development and Education, Brosseau works with members of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon international community to provide online education in three languages, as well as works with constituents to raise funds for the IAOMS charitable arm, the IAOMS Foundation. She is recognized for several accomplishments including developing a new online education platform called IAOMS eLearning for members to hone their surgical skills, as well as exceeding the foundation's fundraising goal by 30 percent in 2014.
• Rose Jurczewski, community manager, Associa Chicagoland, Schaumburg, was awarded the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Illinois Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI). The Rising Star Award recognizes individuals who serve on a CAI-Illinois committee and have consistently made positive contributions. Jurczewski serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee and is on the Illinois Legislative Action Committee. She joined Associa Chicagoland earlier this year and has been in the community management industry for eight years. She is an Illinois licensed community manager and has earned her Certified Manager of Community Associations and Association Management Specialist designations through CAI. She received the Rising Star Award at CAI-Illinois' 24th annual Excellence Awards and Winter Gala at The Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows.
• U.S. Army Pvt. Anthony Johnson, grandson of Cammelot M. Theresea of Hanover Park, graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, Johnson studied the Army mission, history and traditions and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons and more. Johnson is the son of Jennifer M. Johnson of Chicago and James M. Johnson of Waynesville, Missouri. He is a 2015 graduate of Rickover Naval Academy, Chicago.
