Wheaton College should be applauded
Allah is not the same as the Christian God. Plain and simple. "God" means very different things to different religions and those practicing their faith.
Research it for yourself, but of all people, Wheaton Prof. Hawkins should have known that before she said they were the same.
Good for Wheaton administrators for holding her accountable to the college's Statement of Faith, which she signed willingly. The administrators may need to check into what she's been teaching if she can't get the basics correct. She can wear a hijab, which I find very liberal of Wheaton-a Bible college-but if she wants to teach inaccurate theology, she should go elsewhere.
It's disappointing that several media outlets chose to lead with an inaccurate comment-that the professor was suspended because she was wearing the head covering-rather than reporting the correct reason upfront-for her statement.
That sure helped to get people "outraged" over nothing. I think protests and sit-ins are a great idea (very American!) when used for the correct reasons. But it seems these days that many media like to stir up people into a frenzy and keep it going long beyond what is necessary, based on incorrect information.
As someone who was supportive of Muslim people after 9/11-and believe me, that was not a popular stance back then-I still support freedom of religion, but let's stick to the facts.
I can see why Christians feel marginalized. A lot of pandering to other religions but let's zap a coach for leading prayer or better not place "Merry Christmas" on a coffee cup. Enough already.
I never thought of myself as a flag waver, but, hey, I realize that I'm lucky to live in the U.S. If you don't like it here, leave!
