Local manufacturers aid Toys for Tots
Heeding the call for toy donations to help bridge a gap of tens of thousands of toys still needed by Toys for Tots to provide a gift to every child who's requested one through local organizations, sister toy manufacturers Learning Resources and Educational Insights donated two U-Haul truckloads of new toys and games to Toys for Tots Dec. 16.
The donation of nearly 7,000 new toys and games has an estimated value of $175,000.
Now in its 68th year, Toys for Tots provides joy and a message of hope to economically disadvantaged children through the gift of a new toy during the Christmas holiday season.
Their gifts offer these children recognition and a positive memory to cherish for a lifetime. In 2014, Marines distributed gifts to 6.8 million children in 759 communities nationwide.
This year, Chicagoland's Toys for Tots estimated tens of thousands of toys were still needed or, for the first time in its history, they may not be able to provide a holiday gift to every child on their list this season.
The toy donation by Learning Resources and Educational Insights will help bring Toys for Tots closer to its goal.
