Vernon Hills teens charged in residential burglaries

Two teenage boys have been charged in connection with a string of burglaries in Vernon Hills subdivisions, police said Saturday.

The two 15-year-olds, both of whom live in Vernon Hills, each face seven counts of residential burglary, police said. Authorities are not releasing their names because they are juveniles.

The burglaries happened over a two-week span that began Dec. 7, police said. Most of the homes targeted were in the Deerpath subdivision off Route 45, police said. Two other burglaries occurred in the Hawthorn Club and Grosse Pointe subdivisions, respectively.

All of the homes were unoccupied at the time of the burglaries, police said, and no one was injured.

The items taken from the homes include bicycles, liquor, airsoft guns and an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. Most of the items have been recovered, police said.

On Dec. 18, police developed information indicating the teens' involvement, police said. Each was taken into custody without incident, police said.

They are currently are being held in the Lake County Hulse Juvenile Detention Center.
