Holiday blood drive at Woodfield Dec. 18-31

This article has been updated to reflect that previously announced "fast passes" to see Santa at Woodfield Mall without waiting in line have been withdrawn as a potential thank-you gift for the blood drive.

Heartland Blood Centers is hoping to get more than 2,000 blood donors during its "12 Days of Giving" event from Friday, Dec. 18 through Thursday, Dec. 31, at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

The nonprofit agency will be set up by the mall entrance near the Cheesecake Factory.

The donation center will operate from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. most days. Exceptions are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 27 to 30. It will be closed Christmas Day.

Donors will receive special thank-yous like gift cards, free gift wrapping and more.
