House break-in? Call a newsman.

I applaud the lady who wrote about the lack of respect shown to teachers, firemen, and the police. There are good and bad people in every profession. I chose to believe there are more good policemen.

Respect for others is taught in the home, definitely a parental responsibility. When I was a youngster my father taught me that when a policeman shouted, "Halt" you were supposed to do just that, not run away. Let's face it, there are very few 30- or 40-year-old people who can outrun a teenager.

I have passed along the respect message to my four children and it also included respect for other people's property. You will never be able to show me my children looting stores or destroying the property of others.

The local news likes to stoke the fire and keep it a story.

The next time you think someone is breaking into your house call a newsman. He can tell you just what you must do. Hindsight is 20-20.

My thanks to all the good policemen and women for all the good you do. Continue to serve and keep your heads down.
