Cary-Grove tames the field in Wild Stallion Jamboree

Cary-Grove turned in the top performance boys swimming performance in Saturday's Wild Stallion Jamboree, hosted by Rolling Meadows at Elk Grove on Saturday.

The Trojans finished with 247 points in the relay-heavy meet, ahead of Lane Tech (167), Prospect (158), Hersey (145), Jacobs (136) and Rolling Meadows (120).

Cary-Grove had winning relay efforts in the 400-yard medley (3:44.96), the 350 free (3:02.09), the 200 backstroke (1:47.75), the 400 free (3:31.38) and the 200 medley (1:45.39).

Senior Cooper Langanis finished second in the varsity division of the 50 free in 22.53.

Prospect's top relay finish came in the 200 breaststroke (second, 2:06.97), and Matt Inserra placed fourth in the varsity 50 free (23.50).

Hersey won the 200 fly relay, and sophomore Michael Petro had the top 50 free time in the frosh-soph division, 22.41.

Rolling Meadows took top honors in the 300 freestyle relay and had sophomore Josh Dellorto take second in the frosh-soph 50 free at 22.52.

The Mustangs were without five of their usual varsity competitors due to ACT testing, but Dellorto teamed with Jake Pors, David Myers and Nate Pardini to win the 300 relay.

Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta delighted in the symmetry of having a team coached by one of her former swimmers - A.J. Adams - win the spirited gummy relay at meet's end. That event is a 200-yard kickboard relay, and Lane Tech was a big winner in 2:03.60.

"It was kind of neat to see it all come full circle the way it did," Chiappetta said. "And now A.J. has 15 pounds of gummy worms that he's got to figure out what to do with."

Buffalo Grove's Mark Poirier placed seventh in the varsity 50 in 23.86; the Bison finished seventh as a team with 99 points.

Jacobs finished fifth (136) and got a third-place finish from freshman Harold Ogaban in the frosh-soph 50 free (23.74).
