Kane extending streak lone bright spot in Hawks' ugly loss

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Training camp began nearly three months ago.

The Stanley Cup playoffs don't begin for four more months, more than 50 grueling games still in the way.

The NHL season is approaching the winter doldrums, that sometimes interminable period between the excitement of a new season and the juice of the playoffs.

So you can forgive the Blackhawks for getting a little into this whole Patrick Kane point streak thing, overpassing the puck to keep it alive, and celebrating empty-net assists like overtime winners. It's become a rallying point, a motivator, something to inject a little fun into each game.
