Christmas Comes Early for Boys & Girls Club Courtesy of Flexan
Christmas came early for a group of deserving Chicago youngsters who participate in programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Morgan Park, courtesy of Chicago-based Flexan, a company that produces custom molded rubber components for a myriad of uses including medical devices. Flexan also has offices in Elk Grove
As part of an internal team building initiative, 24 members of Flexan's management team spent the final hours of an afternoon meeting on November 18 assembling eight bicycles in which they had all contributed money to purchase.
The following morning, the members met once again, this time to load the bikes and personally deliver them to the Boys & Girls Club of Morgan Park. Upon arrival, the group was greeted by Club Director Robert Barnes, posed for photos and then toured the three-story facility located.
"The entire team agreed that taking time during our meeting to use both our energy and resources to support our community was a worthwhile use of our time," said Jim Fitzgerald, Chief Financial Officer. "We're keenly aware that to many youngsters, the Boys & Girls Club is like a second home to many children and provides a safe environment to learn and have fun. The club was an easy choice as a recipient for the bicycles and it's our goal to bring additional team members back to volunteer throughout the year."
Established in 2012, the Morgan Park Boys & Girls Club exists in the former Holy Name of Mary elementary school building with approximately 10,000 square feet of space for children to learn, play, study and grow. The Club serves the Morgan Park, Roseland, Pullman, and Washington Heights communities, reaching some of the most southern neighborhoods in Chicago. The club currently has an average daily attendance of more than 50 children.
"We're grateful to businesses like Flexan for not only its donation, but for recognizing the safe environment and quality programs we provide throughout Chicago," said Barnes. "We look forward to a long and mutually-beneficial relationship with Flexan in the years to come."
