Fox Valley Eagles names new head football coach

The Fox Valley Eagles of the Iron Athlete Football League has named Michael Scianna of Huntley as the team's new head coach.

Scianna brings extensive leadership and over 30 years of coaching experience to the Fox Valley Eagles. He retired as head varsity football coach for Larkin High School in Elgin.

"I am confident that Mike will bring the Fox Valley Eagles his experience on both the offensive and defensive sides," said Patrick Sharpe, Eagles president and general manager. "He will be invaluable in structuring both our game plan and practice plans to prepare our players to move forward in their skills.

Throughout his career, Scianna has served in a wide variety of coaching positions at Huntley High School, Rolling Meadows High School, John Hersey High School, Montini Catholic High School, Streamwood High School and Glenbard North High School. He also has served as wide receivers coach/special teams coordinator at Benedictine University.

"I look forward to energizing and inspiring our athletes, coaches, parents and the community as I begin my position as head coach with the Eagles," said Scianna. "With the knowledge and skills I have gained through playing, 23 years of coaching and recruiting within high level programs, I am confident my skills are of value and transferable to meet the goals and mission of the Fox Valley Eagles."

In his career, Scianna has taught a number of current Fox Valley Eagles players during their high school football experience. "It will be great to be back coaching these gifted athletes once again," Scianna added.

Scianna is a member of the Illinois Coaching Association. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education at Benedictine University and a minor in industrial technology at Chicago State University.

He and his wife, Katy, and their three children, Brittany, Tessa and Mickey, reside in Huntley.

The Fox Valley Eagles will play a 10-game season with five home and five away games competing against teams from Illinois and Wisconsin starting in June through September 2016. All semipro play is according to NFL rules. The Eagles carry a roster of 55 local players from throughout the Fox Valley, who reside from McHenry to Aurora, including Marengo and Barrington.

The team is led by Hall of Fame Executive Patrick Sharpe (American Football Association, 2005). Sharpe was assisted in 2015 by Head Coach Dave Joslyn (Jacobs High School in Algonquin) and Chuck Dickerson (Buffalo Bills). Both Joslyn and Dickerson retired at the conclusion of the 2015 season.

With a commitment to the community, the Fox Valley Eagles are dedicated to providing affordable football for a fun family experience of sports entertainment.
