Want to thank a veteran? #TweetToThank

A luminaria tribute to commemorate Veterans Day will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, inside the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.

The museum will light approximately 1,300 candles throughout its lobby, exhibit galleries and courtyard. This is the eighth year for Cantigny's candlelight tribute to fallen soldiers and all military veterans, but the first year for the display to be primarily indoors. In addition, information about post-traumatic stress and veteran suicide will be available as the museum seeks to raise public awareness of important issues facing our nation's soldiers and vets.

Admission and parking at Cantigny are complimentary on Veterans Day. The First Division Museum will offer extended hours, remaining open until 9 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. in the Cantigny Park Visitors Center, author Rex Passion will discuss "The Lost Sketchbooks: A Young Artist in the Great War." Published in 2014, the book is based on the work of Cpl. Edward Shenton, who during World War I always had a sketchbook in his pack, in his pocket or under his helmet. His artistry remained packed away for 90 years until Passion, working with Shenton's son, brought it back to life. Copies of the book will be for sale.

The First Division Museum invites everyone to tweet a photo of an active soldier or veteran they wish to thank or remember on Veterans Day. Photos received will be projected in the museum's lobby on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Photos are needed by noon Tuesday, Nov. 10. Use hashtags #TweetToThank and #FirstDivisionMuseum.

Cantigny Post 556 of the American Legion will host tables at the museum and Visitors Center. The Cantigny Shop and Bertie's Coffee Shop will be open throughout the evening. Visitors are invited to enjoy a free cup of coffee or hot chocolate from 5 to 9 p.m. at the First Division Museum.
