Senior Star at Weber Place Presents Three-Part Workshop for Alzheimer's Caregivers
ROMEOVILLE, IL (October 30, 2015) - Senior Star at Weber Place is pleased to host a three-part workshop for Alzheimer's disease caregivers, co-sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14 at 605 South Edward Drive, Romeoville.
The workshop is a must for those in the special role of being a caregiver to someone with Alzheimer's, which requires a tremendous amount of flexibility and patience. As the abilities of the person with Alzheimer's change, and functioning independently becomes more difficult with disease progression, the caregiver takes on greater responsibility. Daily routines need to be adapted and developing strategies and ways of coping that work for both the caregiver and the person with dementia are important.
Featuring information and strategies to help caregivers provide safe, effective and comfortable care for Alzheimer's disease, the program will begin by highlighting the various symptoms of the disease's middle stages and changes in relationships in addition to preparing for hospitalizations. Discussions of practical concerns including medication management, home safety, wandering and behavior changes will follow. Services available to both the caregiver and the individual with Alzheimer's will be addressed in the final portion of the workshop.
Sharing information with other Alzheimer's caregivers can be a great source of support as caregivers understand the complex feelings associated with caring for a person with dementia. "Supporting the caregiver adds an important element to our objective of aging well," said Tom Johnsrud, executive director at Senior Star at Weber Place. "We are committed to offering educational programs for our residents' families and individuals in the surrounding community who are caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease."
Please RSVP no later than November 13 by calling the local Alzheimer's Chapter at 815.744.0804 or go to alz.org/Illinois to reserve your spot.
