Wendy's closing one Schaumburg location, opening new one next door

The 40-year-old Wendy's at the northeast corner of Algonquin and Meacham roads in Schaumburg will close Sunday, at least a week or more before the opening of its more up-to-date replacement immediately to the east.

According to a store manager, the brief downtime will allow for staff training.

The new restaurant originally was expected to open Monday, Nov. 2, but may be delayed by as much as two weeks, according to the manager. Nevertheless, the old one will still close as scheduled this weekend.

The old, 2,600-square-foot Wendy's is expected to be demolished once its replacement is fully up and running. The 0.7-acre site at 1500 E. Algonquin Road already is being marketed by the commercial real estate firm Sperry Van Ness.
