Pledge a Thanksgiving Basket for In-Need Palatine Township Families

Palatine Township is again sponsoring its Thanksgiving Program, which provides baskets full of all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner for in-need Township families. See the list of accepted basket items here: http://www.palatinetownship.com/thanksgiving-2015/.

Businesses, organizations, individuals and other groups are asked to pledge to provide either the ingredients themselves, or make monetary donations so that they can be purchased by the Township. Thanksgiving Baskets will then be prepared for residents in time to enjoy for Thanksgiving.

"Donors have been incredibly generous in past years; last year, 791 families were served due to the giving nature of our Township residents," said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson, Palatine Township Supervisor.

The Township is working to increase the number of families served by nearly 100 during this year's program.

The families who receive the Thanksgiving Baskets are referred in by school social workers throughout Palatine Township. Many of them might not qualify for general assistance, but are approved to utilize the Township food pantry.

The program is anonymous; Palatine Township pairs up families with donors and all that is known is that the recipients are in-need, and for those who donate-that they have helped to lessen the financial burden for a family on Thanksgiving.

Volunteers for the program include local high school and middle school students who get involved as part of required service hours.

"These young people are learning the importance of helping others through volunteering, during the holiday season when many people have increased financial difficulties," Langlotz-Johnson said.

If you are interested in pledging either food items or monetary donations, please visit the Palatine Township website at www.palatinetownship.com/thanksgiving-2015.

Pledges must be made no later than Friday, October 30, 2015.
