Bible isn't a textbook on culture

I read with interest the letter in the Oct. 2 edition of the Daily Herald from Rich Lorimer.

I realized again how little many people know about the scriptures. The Bible is not a textbook on culture, as many people seem to believe. It is not simply a guide on "do's and don'ts. The Bible is really the history of God's chosen people - from creation through the trials and tribulations of the chosen people; and the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So often people want to take a verse from here and here, or a couple of verses which seem to say what we want it to say. And to them, that is the Bible. We need to look at the entire Bible and see what it all says, how one part supports another.

I suggest that Mr. Lorimer find a good Church that has some in-depth Bible Studies and begin to understand what the Bible says, and not just what he would like it to say.
