Mt. Prospect promotes sergeant to commander
Mount Prospect police Sgt. Joseph Garris was sworn in as police commander at last week's village board meeting. Garris joined the department in June 2000 after serving a number of years with the Bensenville police department. He has served as an evidence technician and a training officer. He was promoted to sergeant in May 2008. Several years ago, he was asked to assume leadership of the special investigations unit. Police Chief Tim Janowick said he took the unit in a new direction, focusing on such previously uncharted areas as financial crime.
