Authorities: Facebook dispute leads to shooting in Aurora

A dispute between two Aurora men that spilled over onto social media may have led to a shooting that landed one of the men behind bars, authorities said Wednesday.

Martin Leyva-Ramirez, 24, of the 900 block of South Fourth Street, was charged Oct. 1 with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of an explosive bullet in connection with a Sept. 30 shooting on Aurora's near east side.

Police said Leyva-Ramirez and a 21-year-old man were arguing around 8:10 p.m. Sept. 30 over Facebook when the other man challenged Leyva-Ramirez to come to a home on the first block of Webster Street so they could fight.

Layva-Ramirez drove to the site minutes later, police said, and fired shots at the 21-year-old who was standing in a front yard and at a 16-year-old male relative who was close by. He missed both of his intended targets, police said, and then sped from the scene.

When police learned of Leyva-Ramirez's alleged involvement, they set up a surveillance on his home and took him into custody without incident about an hour after the shooting, authorities said. Charging documents indicate that officers who searched his vehicle found a live bullet.

Court information for Leyva-Ramirez was not immediately available.
