Mount Prospect names Brian Lambrel interim fire chief

The village of Mount Prospect announced Tuesday that Deputy Fire Chief Brian Lambel will serve as interim fire chief effective Thursday, Oct. 1. Chief John Malcolm, who recently accepted the position of Fire Chief in Lake Zurich, is retiring, effective Oct. 9.

Lambel, a 16-year veteran of the department, will be assisted by Lt. John Dolan, who will serve as interim deputy chief. He has been with the department since 1996.

"I feel Brian is well qualified to lead the fire department with a management style that is respectful of the past accomplishments and progressive enough to embrace future challenges of the fire service," Acting Village Manager Dave Strahl said in a news release. He has said he'll evaluate options on how to fill the position permanently.

Lambel began with the village as a firefighter/paramedic in 2000 and was promoted to deputy chief in June of 2015.

"Lt. Dolan and I have been given the opportunity to serve our community in a position that will allow us to prepare for the many changes and challenges that we may face," Lambrel said.

Dolan said he is looking forward to working with Lambel again. "I greatly appreciate the confidence and support that the village manager, Chief Malcolm, and Deputy Chief Lambel have shown me, and will work hard to gain the same from our personnel," Dolan said in the release.
