Village Announces New Mobile Payment Parking Option for Commuters
The Village of Schaumburg is introducing a new mobile payment parking option that will allow commuters using daily fee parking at Schaumburg's Metra station to skip the trip to the meter and pay for parking directly from their smartphone or other mobile device.
As of Thursday, Oct. 1, commuters utilizing daily fee parking located on the north side of the tracks in Schaumburg's Commuter Lot (2000 S. Springinsguth Rd.) will have the ability to pay for parking using the new PassportParking mobile application.
"In the mobile and digital world that we live in, we're pleased to be able to offer another tool that increases the level of service that we provide to our commuters," said Schaumburg's Transportation Director Karyn Robles. "This tool is easy to use, convenient and gives commuters the option to park and quickly board the train with no extra steps in between."
To utilize the new service, customers must first download the PassportParking app from the Apple Store for iPhones and iPads or Google Play for Android users and other tablets. Once downloaded, users will register an account. Participants can also register for the service online at m.ppprk.com or by calling (847) 380-4332.
Once registered for the service, users will need to enter their vehicle's Zone Number, which is always 60193, followed by the space number that indicates which stall they are parked in, and confirm the time needed for their session. Please note that payment for a stall does not reserve the space in advance. Users should park first and then pay for the time needed for that particular stall. Payment is required once a person has parked his or her vehicle in a daily fee parking space.
The mobile app allows drivers to extend their parking session to the maximum time allowed, add or update payment card details, as well as manage notification and receipt options. The same functions are also available on the mobile website, m.ppprk.com. Additionally, the mobile application and website allows users to select from multiple language options for non-English speakers.
For users without smart phones, customers are invited to Pay-by-Voice by calling (847) 380-4332, providing the zone and space number and payment information.
Daily fee parking in Schaumburg's Commuter Lot is $1.50. Users of the new PassportParking application will be charged a $.40 service fee for each initial transaction used to purchase a parking space or to extend time using a space if it wasn't included in the original transaction. Once the maximum time has been reached, customers must leave their parking spot or they are subject to being ticketed.
In addition to the PassportParking app, commuters also have the option to continue paying for daily fee parking using the six parking meters that are available in the lot. The parking meters accept exact change only of coins, paper currency, Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
