St. Charles river plan a boondoggle

Ten years ago the previous St. Charles mayor and city council decided to do a major downtown redevelopment project which they said would revitalize downtown and not use taxpayer funds.

The project has been an abject failure and has added tens of millions of dollars to our debt, caused the city to increase taxes, taken money away from our school system and has not revitalized the downtown area.

Now the mayor and the city council are starting to proceed on a major white-water river project which they say will revitalize the downtown area. The problems are: 1. it probably is not physically feasible 2. The plan has an in-the-river children splash pool even though the river is being dredged for horrible PCB contaminants 3. The mayor and city council have no idea where the money will come from and 4. They have nothing to substantiate that it will revitalize the downtown area.

Email the mayor and your city council members if you think this will be another boondoggle which again will result in taxes going up.
