Hersey edges host Elk Grove

Elk Grove's Jelena Vujanic and Diya Matta earned victories at first singles, but visiting Hersey won three of four doubles matches to help secure a 4-3 victory on Wednesday in Mid-Suburban League girls tennis.

Vujanic topped Hersey's Anna Karpetiani 6-1, 6-0, and Matta defeated Christine Magnuson 6-2, 6-1. Hersey got a singles win as senior May Napora topped Grens sophmore Ashley Szull 6-2, 6-2.

Elk Grove won first doubles, and Hersey won Nos. 2 through 4 doubles.

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Asuka Kawai led the way with a win at first singles as the visiting Pirates won 7-0, taking each matchup in straight sets.

Downers Grove South d. Rolling Meadows: Anisha Galla earned a victory at No. 2 singles, but visiting Meadows dropped a 5-2 decision in nonconference play.

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Kina Tamai, Dasha Ignatova and Jessic Prus swept singles play to help Buffalo Grove's 7-0 victory in MSL East play.
