Technology Center expo highlights school's programs

The Technology Center of DuPage's 2015 TCD Expo will highlight its programs and provide demonstrations.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19, at the center, 301 S. Swift Road, Addison.

The campus is operated by 14 school districts representing 24 high schools from DuPage County and Lyons Township under a joint agreement to provide 20 advanced college and career readiness programs for juniors and seniors.

The expo highlights the elective classes, covering career pathways in health care, public safety, personal services, trades, technology and engineering.

Demos and activities will include 3-D printing, a car show, free salon services, victim rescues in fire science, a chocolate fountain and a cooking competition, computer gaming, and health care practicals. The event is free. For details, visit tcdupage.org or call (630) 691-7572.

School officials estimate more than 25,000 students have taken advantage of a TCD career elective in the past four decades.

In 1998, the school's name and focus changed as technology transformed the workplace into one requiring postsecondary credentials.

No longer for the non-college-bound, Technology Center of DuPage programs are college level, reinforcing academic skills critical for postsecondary success while providing advanced occupational and workplace skills essential for career readiness.

In the past four years, TCD seniors have earned scholarship awards valued in excess of $1.75 million.
