Medical Insurance: The Connection Between Therapeutic Massage and Your Health
Patients of PalmLeaf Massage can receive substantial health benefits from the services provided, which include a 9th generation Hawaiian medicinal massage called Lomi Lomi Ka, and Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy.
And, many people may not know that their insurance could actually cover the treatment if it is determined to be 'medically necessary' by a medical doctor. Under Obamacare, section 2706, it states that licensed massage therapist can be covered under medical insurance.
Owner Ramon Mascarenas receives many of his patients through referral forms he provides to medical doctors who treat a variety of ailments including Migraines, Tendinitis, Bursitis, Frozen Shoulder, Abdominal Constipation, Carpal Tunnel, Shoulder Pain, Lower Back Pain, Iliotibial band contracture (IT Band), Piriformis Syndrome, Lymphatic Drainage, Hypertension and other ailments.
As a licensed Massage Therapist within the scope of practice in the State of Illinois, he is a member and is insured under AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association).
Mascarenas suggests that people ask their doctors if massage could be beneficial to their overall treatment plan. If it is determined to the affirmative, doctors can write a 'massage prescription' on a form available through PalmLeaf Massage. Mascarenas will then give his patients a Superbill, so that they can submit it to their insurance for reimbursement.
"We are not replacing medical services by any means, but rather our services are complimentary to them. Massage not only promotes wellness, but is also therapeutic," Mascarenas said.
